History/Overview
Audi’s entry in the compact luxury coupe segment is the A5, a car whose curvaceous design is so enduring that it has hardly changed since its late-2000s debut. Audi most recently refreshed the A5’s styling in 2020.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2022, the A5 gets a few new standard features and trim items, which we’ll detail below.
Available Trims
The Audi A5 comes in Progressiv and Technik trim levels. Both share a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder engine with mild hybrid assist, a seven-speed automatic transmission, and AWD.
Audi also offers the A5 in convertible and four-door Sportback body styles, each of which are covered in separate buyer’s guide entries.
Standard Features
As you walk up to your Audi A5 Progressiv, you’ll see 19-inch wheels, auto on/off LED matrix headlights, LED taillights, heated/auto-dimming side mirrors, lighted door sills, and passive keyless entry with hands-free trunk. New for 2022 is a standard sport suspension.
In the cabin, you’re greeted with heated sport seats with new-for-2022 lumbar adjustments, ambient interior lighting, leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, auto-dimming mirror, and sunroof. New this year is Amazon Alexa, accessible through the A5’s carry-over 10.1-inch touchscreen, along with a 10-speaker stereo, satellite radio, wireless Apple CarPlay, navigation, and a digital gauge cluster.
Every A5 coupe also comes with a basic safety suite comprising automatic high beams, front and rear parking sensors, pre sense city/rear, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, exit warning system, and rear cross-traffic alert.
Technik trim adds laser light headlights with washers, power-folding side mirrors, top-view camera, new-for-2022 wireless smartphone charging, rear-seat USB charging, and a Bang & Olufsen stereo. Also new to this year’s Technik package are a few driver assist features: pre sense front, adaptive cruise, traffic congestion assist, traffic sign recognition, active lane assist, and hands-on detection.
Key Options
Progressiv trim’s advanced driver assistance package adds adaptive cruise, traffic sign recognition, pre sense front, active lane assist, traffic congestion assist, and hands-on detection.
Among the A5’s stand-alone options are a head-up display, adaptive damping suspension, 20-inch wheels, heated rear seats, and ventilated front seats.
Fuel Economy
Audi’s fuel consumption estimates for the A5 are 9.8/7.6 L/100 km (city/highway).
